This work is a guide to the state of the art on essential oils and is an in-depth study and consultation tool for professionals who intend to use these products for health purposes, as well as for producers, but also for medical doctors, naturopaths, pharmacists and herbalists.
The volume is divided into two parts, both amply revised and updated with respect to the first edition.
The first part, after a historical excursus on essential oils, details their origin, production, chemical composition, ecological function, biological activities, biogenesis, chemistry, distillation, degradation, skin application, olfactory action, toxicology, dosages. A chapter is dedicated to hydrolats and fixed oils.
The second part presents the main essential oils, sorted by taxonomic groups, in the form of monographs, specifying their chemical composition, historical use, organoleptic characteristics, activity, possible directions and safety data.
25 new monographs have been added to the previous 40 ones to account for new research.
